Borestone Mountain

It wasn’t long after all the new students had arrived that we decided to take them for our annual climb up Borestone Mountain. Borestone is about 30 minutes from Foxcroft Academy and has an elevation of just under 2000 feet.

We climb Borestone for several reasons. First, its a wonderful team building exercise as students need to help each other at different points in the climb and even help some of the older staff! It also serves as a visual teaching tool to help students understand exactly where they are in Maine – they are in the heartland of the Maine forest! Many parents worry about whether Foxcroft Academy is a safe school and whether its too close to big cities. This visual lesson quickly assures students there are no big or small cities anywhere near Foxcroft Academy.

Lastly the climb up Borestone allows students to see the stunning beauty of Maine and God’s creation. While they were very tired when they reached the summit they collectively gasped at the beauty and simply stood in almost perfect silence as they took in the sight.
