Koren Reception

One of the highlights of my time in Korea was the opportunity to host a reception with 66 parents, students, alumni and prospective students and parents attending. The reception was the work of Soon Hee, the mother of Hae Jin. She along with a few other mothers sent invitations, made follow-up phone calls and arranged every detail of the reception including an FA banner, food, name tags and ice sculpure.Watch A Photo Slide Show

As a result of their good effort the reception was a huge success. Hae Jin and I teamed up on the presentation that included information on our academic programming, plans for three new dorms and information on the college application process. My only regret is that I didn’t do this three years ago. Like any parent they want input into the educational program of their child and the opportunity to ask questions. Given the cultural and language differences the opportunity to ask questions is more critical than ever and one we should have provide parents many years ago.

Once again I had to thank Hae Jin for her role in helping to not only translate my English but to actually doing a portion of the presentation which allowed for an even flow of the information we were trying to communicate.

Parents were gracious and kind. One parents said, “We give Foxcroft Academy our 100% support.” Many expressed appreciation for individual teachers who took an interest in their child was endless. Parents are now forming the Foxcroft Academy Korean Parent’s Association and planning for my return trip (with Dottie) next year.
