Let’s Go Skiing!
Two things which are plentiful in Maine are its mountains and snow. So, if you come to school in Maine one of the winter activities you must try is skiing or snowboarding.
This weekend Myeonghoe, Ina and Yoo Kyeong joioned 21 other boarding students and a few days students in a ski trip to Hermon Mountain (In the picture above: Jung Min, Yoo Kyeong, Ina and Myeonghoe). While Myeonghoe and Yoo Kyeong had skied before Ina had never strapped on a pair of skis in her life. With just a few pointers from me Ina took off fearlessly for the big mountain. Fortunately, Myeonghoe and Yoo Kyeong stayed right with her and “picked her up” after each fall.
It wasn’t long before Ina got the knack of the snowplow and weaving down the mountain rather than taking a straight track (often towards the trees). It was fun watching Myeonghoe and Yoo Kyeong who looked like old pros coming down the mountain. The video below shows Myeonghoe coming down in her red jacket, followed by Lucy McDermott on a snowboard with Ina bringing up the “rear” on her skis…and slowly weaving back and forth across the slope.
We got home in the early evening…..and while the girls still had plenty of energy left, I was ready for a “long winter’s nap.”
