Serving in the Senate
Last week I took our girls to Augusta at the invitation of my good friend Sen. Douglas Smith so that they would have an opportunity to learn about Maine’s state government. The day included their serving as pages in the Maine Senate.
As pages they were kept busy shuffling papers and messages between senators and carrying message from the senate chambers to the house chamber.
All three girls were amazed at the loud sound of the gavel (which caused You Jin to jump out of her seat more than once) and the pace at which bills and motions were brought forth. At the end of the day the girls all wished they had brought their tennis shoes. They were appreciative of all the help Sen. Smith and other senators provided them.
